Floor StrippingThe removal of polish and scuff marks
Equipment:- Dust Control Mop
- Warning Sign – “cleaning in progress”
- Protective Gloves and Goggles
- Masking Tape
- Rotary Floor Machine
- Black Stripping Pads
- Floor Stripping Product
- Mop and Wringer Bucket
- Floor Edging Tool with Black Stripping Pads
- Wet and Dry Vacuum
Method:- Sweep area to be stripped with dust control mop
- Put out warning signs and close of area if necessary
- Wear protective equipment, dilute floor stripper in a bucket with cool water using manufacturer’s instructions
- Tape the doorways and edges as necessary
- Soak floor with stripper using mop and bucket and allow to dwell for 5-10 minutes – do not allow to dry
- Working backwards, Scrub with floor machine & black pad
- Spray edges with Jackhammer, leave 5 mins. agitate using edging tool and black pad, rinse & wipe dry
- Remove slurry with wet and dry vacuum or mop and bucket before it dries, working forwards from a dry area
- Rinse the area thoroughly with cold clean water (unless using a rinse free stripper in which case damp mop) at least twice. A tablespoon of vinegar added the final rinse will help neutralise any remaining alkali residue
- Clean equipment and pads and remove warning sign when the floor is dry
Beware:- Do not cover too big an area - stripper may dry out
- Do allow sufficient dwell time – patches may be left
- Do not use clogged pads – patches may be left
- Ensure sufficient rinsing – if not floor finish will peel up from floor
